Such a shame. And sorry about your neighboring property - it is only about the "green". Good to read your writing again, J.M.!

The fame angle is the most likely motive for this act, if I had to guess. I'm curious to know who did this and why. Though, of course, there's no justification for it.

I'd like to say welcome back, but I know it's not time yet. An amazing story though, and so sad. People can be such dicks.

What a tragedy! Any tree that’s been around so long and grown so big should be honored for as long as nature allows. You kind of have to wonder how it is that someone out of the blue concocted and then executed their evil plan to bring such a landmark down without anyone being the wiser. 🤔 Sorry to hear about what’s going on near you too.

What a beautiful - heartbreaking - post. I walked to the tree around this time last year, and it was glorious. We were in the area again two weeks ago but didn't take the opportunity to go back. I sorely wish that I had.

It's lovely to read your words again, Jacquie. 😘

Could a carpenter buy the wood and carve trinkets from it? I'm sure they would be popular especially if a donation was made to a worthy cause.

What a shame this happened. Such a beautiful and iconic tree that has seen hundreds of years and witnessed countless decades of people flocking to this tree for their own purposes. This tree has been revered and touched the souls of many. The question is why would anyone want to destroy a harmless tree that brought comfort and happiness to so many who were able to visit over its lifetime. Sadly, it is a commentary on the immorality and the quest for fame today at any cost. I hope they punish whoever did this severely. I can think of a few things I'd like to do to this soulless moron.
