Have a great time, J! Make the most of it. Sit under a tree once in a while and read a book for enjoyment--not that you have that kind of time on a working farm, but you'll manage!

Happy Summer!!! My posts have also decreased because I’m determined to finish a first draft of a novel. I can’t prioritize my newsletter over my main writing goal, which is books! I’ll miss you and look forward to hearing from you again and here and there while you take a break

I was so happy to receive this post in my Inbox that I opened the Substack app first thing this morning to comment on it. You’ve addressed something I’ve been feeling mildly angsty about since April shaded into May. I’m in “TV network rerun mode” at the moment because I’m so distracted by the summer and the nice weather. It’s been hard for me to keep up with the self-imposed writing goals I’ve set. (But vitamin D is important too!) I hope writers who feel obliged to post something every week because they’re charging for subscriptions, don’t stress so much that they get burnt out because it’ll show in the quality of their writing and it’ll make writing less enjoyable. My gut feeling is that most people’s subscribers are also taking time away from the computer at the moment. So I’ve been saying to myself, “Why not get out and treasure up more experiences that I can channel into my writing as fall approaches?”

Have a wonderful summer, Jacquie! I think it’s the perfect time to lean out on the commitments we impose on ourselves and jealously guard our spare moments. 😉☀️

Great article and sentiment. This line resonates:

'We’re all here because we either love to write, love to read quality writing—or both. But it’s hard to do either of those things the justice they deserve when we’re exhausted and swamped with other responsibilities that must take precedence.'

Have a great real-world summer Jacquie, and good luck with the farm.

Have a brilliant break, Jacquie! It's a great idea to reframe things every once in a while - your post has given me plenty to think about in terms of how and where I spend my own time, so huge thanks for that! See you on the other side! 🌞
