This sentence was really vivid: “As we walked, the shouts of men and bellows of stock mingled with the scents of manure and cooking fires in the crisp evening air. “ It brought back memories of camping out on my grandparents’ farmland when I was a young sprout. (Regrettably a rat-bastard uncle disinherited me of that property. Not that I’m bitter. 😂)
I also really liked the description of the river falls being “Nine Steps” that lead to Hades. That’s an imaginative and really persuasive descriptive aside. The artifacts (the broken wagon, Greek vase with a face and disembodied hand) were also nicely described.
