Thanks so much for this comment, Adrian. That's a really interesting thought, and it hadn't occurred to me. Hume was probably grappling with a similar sort of question about why the "self" isn't really a coherent, unified thing, but a collection of things that rise and fall and fight within us at different times. It makes it difficult to define "who we are," but even more fascinating to explore!
Absolutely! And Jung’s incredible work on ‘shadow’ really opened my eyes to the seemingly inescapable identity struggles haunting us all. Love this stuff.
